Self-Reflection on Collaborative Communities in E-Learning

My overall learning experience with this course, as with my other course in the certificate program, was positive. There are a number of tools available to me now that I was not aware of before. I also have a number of strategies to incorporate into the preparation and communication of course material with students. I found Dr. Kay’s text to be a very helpful resource and even though some of the material is starting to show it’s age in the ever-changing world of online education. There are still some sound principals included that I believe will stand up well over time.

Where does your progression into online facilitation (or as an online facilitator) go from here? Until I complete the program, (estimated time is next spring) I don’t see much opportunity to utilize what I’ve learned in this course as an online instructor. My manager at the healthcare organization where I work is sponsoring my participation in the program. Each course I complete is one that I am more able to utilize in the day-to-day functions of my position in the Education & Development department. This particular course though is still more academically oriented and the transferables are not as clear-cut as they will be in the Assessment and Instructional Design courses that I will take in the near future.

Other final thoughts include seeing Dave’s efforts as he completes the Practicum (and the program) with this course. There are so many moving parts in an online course and his work this past eight weeks has made me both excited and nervous for my own try at this next year.
