This course in the E-Learning and Online Teaching Graduate Certificate offered by University of Wisconsin-Stout allows educators to design effective online courses.

Activities
The activities example below relate to the module about organizing concerns of a research project from the Alignment Chart. The terminal objective for students is to develop shaping strategies and themes. For this project, we are using Horton’s absorb-do-connect activities that will prepare students for meeting the terminal objectives. The enabling objective is to create an outline to organize how you will present your findings to your audience. Absorb activities involve students reading, listening, and watching. The absorb activity includes passages from the text as well as a video. Do activities involve students exercising, exploring, and discovering. The do activity allows students to practice creating an outline for their own project. Connect activities involve students applying the current learning to previous learning or situations they are currently engaged. The connect activity is the 3-2-1 reflection blog that provides students the opportunity to reflect on what they have learned, to acknowledge questions they still have regarding the content as well as to celebrate their successes in the research project journey.
Activity 1 - Background Information (Absorb Activity)
To familiarize yourself with how to outline your research project and why it is important to do so, I would like to review the sections on Creating Outlines from Chapter 13 in Bedford Researcher.
Below is a helpful video for you to watch that presents good strategies in creating an outline.
Activity 2 - Outline Generator (Do Activity)
Now that you have some background in how an outline should look and what information to include, let's practice making outlines for your research project.
Use the outline generator here to play around with the structure of your research project.
Activity 3 - 3-2-1 Reflection Blog (Connect Activity)
Let's put this altogether now and reflect on the content and practice activities involved in creating an outline for your research project. In your 3-2-1 Reflection Blog address the following:
-
3 key pieces of information that you learned
-
2 ideas that you would like to learn more about
-
1concept or skill that you think you have mastered
